Outdoors columnist John Holyoke shares stories from his book “Evergreens” at Stockton Springs Community Library

The Stockton Springs Community Library will be hosting an “Author Talk” featuring Bangor Daily News Sportswriter, John Holyoke author of Evergreens on Sunday, February 9th at 2 PM.

V. Paul Reynolds says ”Evergreens is an authentic slice of the Maine outdoors heritage and Holyoke’s best writing over his career, a wonderful addition to the bookshelf of any outdoors person.”

Local Author Charlotte Crowder Reading “A Fine Orange Bucket” at Stockton Springs Library November 2nd

Stockton Springs Community Library will host a Story Time with local author Charlotte Crowder reading from her children’s book “A Fine Orange Bucket” on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:45 am until 11:00 am.

“A Fine Orange Bucket” is the story of a Maine lobsterman’s special bucket and the people who share in its adventures. Written by Charlotte Crowder, the book is illustrated by Jill Fensen. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event (cash or checks only).

Charlotte Crowder lives and writes on the coast of Maine. By day, she is a medical writer and editor, and she also writes fiction for children and adults. Her short stories have been published in Maine Boats, Homes, and Harborsmagazine, The Maine Review, Boston Literary Magazine, Brilliant Flash Fiction, and American Writers Review.

Stockton Springs Community Library is an all-volunteer library located in the heart of downtown Stockton Springs on the corner of Main St. and Station St.

All are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Author Talk October 2. Patsy Baldus, author of Love, Lutefisk, and Lemon Zest Sneakers”

The Stockton Springs Community Library will be hosting an “Author Talk” featuring retired educator, Patsy Baldus, author of “Love, Lutefisk, and Lemon Zest Sneakers” on Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 PM.

“ What do yellow sneakers, a gecko, a visit to the vet’s, and a memorable seven-course Swedish meal all have in common? Why, calamity, of course! Romp through these humorous and sometimes poignant adventures as the author reveals the joys and comedic pitfalls of everyday experiences, including vacations, family pets, moving, and dealing with the neighborhood kids.”

Please join us at the Stockton Springs Community Library on Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 PM to hear about some of these wonderful stories.

Books will be available to purchase. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Davis Grant Supports Improvements to Stockton Springs Community Library’s Children’s Room

A grant from the Davis Family Foundation has enabled the Stockton Springs Community Library (SSCL) to make improvements to “Mary’s Room,” the library’s Children’s Room. The room was named in honor of the late Mary Staples, one of the library’s main founders.

Upgrades include new standing bookcases made by Clyde L. Brooks, in addition to a new table and chairs. These improvements will enable the library to accommodate more children at programs and will allow for more work spaces for the children to engage in art and craft programs. The new bookcases will also allow younger children to shelve books, which was difficult to do with the former bin type bookcases.

18th Annual Book, Bake, & Plant Sale June 1 at Stockton Springs Community Library

On Saturday, June 1st starting at 9 am the Stockton Springs Community Library will host its 18th Annual Book, Bake, and Plant Sale at the library on Main Street in Stockton Springs.

Library volunteers are busy dividing perennials for this popular fundraiser. There will be a wide variety of flowers and herbs to brighten your gardens. You can stock up on books for summer reading while snacking on delicious homemade baked goods. There’s always a great variety of sweet and savory baked goods available. Also for sale will be DVDs and audio books.

The Stockton Springs Community Library was founded in 2001 and is located in the historic Colcord House, which is owned by the Stockton Springs Historical Society.     Author talk featuring Jane Eagles, Sunday May 5 at 2 pm

    The Stockton Springs Community Library will be hosting an “Author Talk” featuring Jane Eagles on Sunday, May 5th at 2 PM.

    Drawn from her own experiences of life, loss and love and that of the many clients Jane has counseled, Chester’s Lessons – A Memoir in Poetry, tells the story of Chester’s life, and the love that permeated that life, nurtured his relationship with Jane and ultimately sustained her in his loss. It is Chester’s story and the lessons learned from it.

    Jane is a psychologist living in Mid-coast Maine who writes poems (now over 1,000) and essays about what her eyes see and her heart feels, many of which have been inspired on her daily walks along the shores of Penobscot Bay with her beloved Corgi, Chester.

    The Stockton Springs Community Library (SSCL) will present author and naturalist Susan Hand Shetterly on Wednesday, April 24that 6:30 pm.

    She will share readings and insights from her latest book, Seaweed Chronicles: A World at the Water’s Edge.

    Susan Hand Shetterly has lived on the coast of Maine for most of her life. She writes about wildlife and wild lands, has worked as a wild bird rehabilitator, and spends time working with others to protect and restore valuable habitat.

    A member of Friends of Morgan Bay and the Surry Alewife Committee, she serves on Blue Hill Heritage Trust’s Lands Committee.

    Susan’s newest book, Seaweed Chronicles: A World at the Water’s Edge, was released in August 2018. It has been longlisted for the 2019 PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award.


    Her other books include The New Year’s Owl, The Tinker of Salt Cove, Shelterwood, Swimming Home, Settled in the Wild: Notes from the Edge of Town, the Dwarf Wizard of Uxmal, and more. Shetterly’s books will be available for purchase at the event thanks to Book Stacks of Bucksport.

    Susan has been invited by Down East Magazine to write short essays for the column Room with a View. The first of these, “The Chicken Shed,” is in the January 2019 issue.
